Things I Should Do More Often....

Thursday, February 18, 2010

At this current point in time I am procrastiniating. I have my DONA certification to finish and after being sick and four days of work, I just need a break to piddle away my time. That being said the entire process of this application has brought on a resurgence of many of my issues. Like being in school, but worse because you don't have any teachers to hate. The loathing becomes self inflicted and I am a prime candidate for pathological self-abuse. Why? Can of worms for another day.

I resolve, I plan, I list. And really the point of change happens when you make a focused effort to do. Be. Do.

Herstory Repeating

I was following one of my new regular blogs and I came across a article titled "A Gentleman's Guide to Online Sex". While reading I realized that I pretty much wrote this article in my blog post Burning the Midnight Oil. This made me realize several things. One, I can be pretty damn funny. Two, there are people interested in the same things I am. Three, my junior high language arts teacher was full of crap when she told me that would never excel at writing. Humph.

Had to pick one...

In honor of MLK I thought I might post a quote and ponder. Here is one of my favorites:

Like an unchecked cancer,
hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity.
Hate destroys a man's sense of values
and his objectivity.
It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful,
and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true.

~Martin Luther King 1963

Yesterday, while on FaceBook I had some hesitation in venting about my experiences at my current job. Today, I remembered that's what I have a blog for. Good thing to because I had some priceless material.

What I Learned From Training Today -- A List By Greenaprils

1. My co-workers, by probably no fault of their own, have an average reading comprehension of a fifth grader. I find this fascinating on many levels.

2. My boss is advocate of negative reinforcement. So much so, she praises someone, she goes completely overboard. Imagine cocker spaniel peeing on the carpet happy.

3. And I'm pretty sure in a former life she was a kindergarten teacher. The lesson was so dumbed down I think the gum under the table learned something.

4. I spent nine hours learing 35 minutes worth of material. Joy.

5. Part of this training included teaching (not reviewing) the metric system.

6. I retained a hell of a lot more from fourth grade science class than I ever imagined. Thanks Mr. Reabe.

7. My seventh grade math teacher was an idoit.

8. When the class is slient and everybody is looking at me, it's time for the white girl to answer the question.

9. I've offically declared a Cold War on the receptionist. The last straw was her telling me that I did my paperwork "all wrong". In my defense, a) I just followed her directions, b) "Wrong" meant that I forgot to write my DOB and SS# down and c) She had copies of my drivers licence and social securtiy card stapled to the form. I'm visioning many installments of the shit she tries to pull. Please stand by.

10. The time and place for upward mobility is NOW! Resume for the open Acitivies Director position will be in my GM's inbox on Monday morning 8am. FTS.

I am a fan of self-deprecating humor. If you ever seen me try to calculate tip on a bill, you'd experience some of the best.

My favorite from FML today:

Today, while reading some chemistry notes I came across the term "solid water". Completely stumped, I asked myself "what the hell is solid water??". Then I heard my little cousin say "ice". I'm a 4th year science major in university. He still checks the closet for monsters. FML

Awesome.

Mid-College I remember taking the Belief-O-Matic Quiz. For fun and little encouragement I decided to take it again. I'm suprised with the results, mostly in the fact that I've been attending Reform services I don't feel very Jewish. That and I need to start hanging out with more Liberal Quakers? My friend Dee will be happy about that.

1.
Liberal Quakers (100%)
2.
Unitarian Universalism (96%)
3.
Reform Judaism (95%)
4.
Neo-Pagan (85%)
5.
New Age (83%)
6.
Baha'i Faith (81%)
7.

8.
